My brothers and sisters in Christ:

Some this and that:

We are still waiting for the final results of the festival numbers. Outstanding bills are still trickling in, but as soon as they are all paid off we will announce the results of the festival proceeds for this year. It looks to be a tidy sum.

The heat of this summer seems to be more intense than usual, at least it has been in June. Remember to drink plenty of water during your outdoor activities and especially remember to watch out for your friends and neighbors, especially anyone who may be disabled or very elderly. Look out for one another as good stewards of Christ’s love.

Summer is a time of vacation and play. Remember to do both safely and remember to thank Him who made the beauty of the world to enjoy!

Peace and all good things,

Fr. Mike

Brothers and sisters in Christ,

During the course of Ordinary Time we hear many stories in the Gospels that Jesus uses to teach us how we are to live our lives. Ordinary Time is distinguished from the festival seasons (Christmas, Easter) and the preparatory seasons (Advent, Lent) in that it is meant to give us pause to focus on our day to day lives—how to be Christian.
The parable of the Good Samaritan teaches us the importance of mercy, even to our enemies and those we do not like. Christ was quite radical in His desire for us to reach out to others in the world around us. There is no “luke-warm” when it comes to our commitment to each other in Christ.
We often use the word “Pontiff” to refer to the pope. “Pontiff” means ‘bridge-builder’ and it is the pope who is our principal bridge-builder between earth and heaven, but also the example we must follow to build bridges in the human family.
Who do you need a bridge to? Who could use support from you as opposed to criticism or derision? These are the “Samaritans” in your life. Be “the one who showed him mercy” and your heavenly Father will bless you.

Peace and all good things,

Fr. Mike
